Why does the adventure start in the Giant's cave? Odysseus's journey starts out with him arriving at the land of the cyclops.

It starts this way to show why Poseidon hates Odysseus so much. Odysseus cannot be proclaimed a hero because of his tragic and fatal flaw. Odysseus is guilty of hubris, or his excessive pride. One of the most prominent examples is after he defeats the Cyclops. Odysseus had done an excellent job of concealing his identity to the Cyclops throughout the book, yet he reveals his identity in the end. The third reason Creon illustrates the tragic hero of Antigone is because his son Haemon and the citizens of Thebes disagree with him.

By stating this, Haemon shows he believes Creon should take others opinion into account Pg. I, v, l. One example, is he tricks the Cyclops Polyphemus. Another example is when Odysseus was able to keep his men together through most of the journeys. Finally he tricks the suitors by doing something that no other man can do. Why does this turn out to be clever and humorous? What does it turn out is the Cyclops' own name?

Odysseus tells the Cyclops his name is "Nohbdy". When the Cyclops is injured he yells to the other Cyclopses on the island to come help him. When they arrive, the reader learns the Cyclops' name is Polyphemus. When the other one-eyed giants ask who has hurt Polyphemus he replies "No body" and they leave. Odysseus has cleverly figured out a way to confuse the giants. Lines "he set up a howl for Cyclopses who lived in caves on windy peaks nearby What ails you Polyphemus?

Why do you cry so sore in the starry night? Sure no man's driving off your flock? No man has tricked you, ruined you? Out of the cave the mammoth Polyphemus roared in answer: Nohbdy. Nohbdy tricked me. Nohbdy ruined me! To this rough shout they made a sage reply: Ah well, if nobody has played you foul there in your lonely bed, we are no use in pain And I was filled with laughter to see how like a charm the name deceived them.

What favor does the Cyclops grant Odysseus after being served the wine? The Cyclops gift to Odysseus is to eat him for dinner, but the Cyclops promises to eat the other men first and save "Nohbdy Odysseus for last. Others come first. There's a noble gift, now" Lines What does the Cyclops do after drinking the wine? The Cyclops passes out drunk in the cave with wine and bits of dead men drooling out of his mouth. Drunk, hiccuping, he dribbled streams of liquor and bits of men" Lines How or where do Odysseus' men injure the Cyclops?

Why didn't they just stab him in the heart? How does this connect with the way they escape the cave? Odysseus and his men stab the Cyclops in his eye, blinding him. He has been cursed by the god Poseidon who has kept him from home for twenty years. Odysseus has been trying to get back home to his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus.

Although on his journey back home he is unaware that suitors are threatening his home and family. Odysseus, the main character, says this in The Odyssey, written by Homer. The epic starts off two years after the Trojan War, which Odysseus fought in for ten years. Now, Odysseus must journey home, which takes him another ten years. Odysseus faces challenges while going home and has some guidance along the way. The Villain Figure plays a part in hindering Odysseus on his journey home.

Because Odysseus disguised himself as a beggar and told his wife that he was coming home, it helped delay the suitors trying to court his wife. Odysseus becomes the Hero in Disguise because it keeps his throne and wife safe from getting taken over. Odysseus once again becomes the Hero in Disguise while trying to escape from the Cyclops. Odysseus tells the Cyclops his name is Nohbdy so when he later stabs the Cyclops, the Cyclops will scream that Nohbdy is stabbing him.

This aids Odysseus and his men because it lets them escape since no other Cyclopes came in and tried to stop him.
